Rare large ceramic punch bowl with handles, set with a rotating lid, with gilded floral decoration; antique English Aesthetic Movement, Victorian circa 1880.
Condition: some surface wear, some restoration to the rim, glaze craquelure

Style note — Aesthetic style was very popular in the 1870s and 1880s. The homewares in Aesthetic fashion were elegantly designed and useful; the decoration had to be aesthetic, which meant elegant, tasteful and not garish. Design elements were inspired by the imports of ceramics, lacquer furniture and fabrics from the Far East, especially Japan.
Facts of Lavish Good to know — porcelain, ironstone and pottery are tough materials. Wash all ceramics normally in a warm water with a sponge. Be more gentle with overglaze decorations.
